Changing policies and legislation at the local, state and federal levels impact our community in numerous ways. Now more than ever, it is important for community leaders in the nonprofit, faith based and education sectors to understand their rights and responsibilities concerning advocacy to benefit children, youth and families. Upon completion of the training, participants will be able to utilize “lessons learned” locally with the implementation of the new Voter’s Choice Act legislation, which will affect how we vote in Napa County in the 2018 elections.

Tuesday, March 6, 2018 Two Sessions: 9:00 – 11:30am & 1:00 – 3:30pm Congregation Beth Shalom 1455 Elm St. Napa , CA 94559

Participants will learn:

  • Information about the Voter’s Choice Act legislation, resulting in a new voting process in Napa County and how to educate your clients about how and where to vote.
  • How to engage in public policy advocacy affecting your sector.
  • The range of advocacy activities available to nonprofits, educators and faith based organizations, including the definition of “lobbying” and several powerful exceptions to that definition.
  • Strategies for expanding capacity to influence public policy, including participation in candidate elections.
  • The tools and opportunities that the federal tax code provides for nonprofit organizations, including funders and grantees exempt under Section 501(c)(3).
